A Journey Beyond the Ordinary: Three Decades of Oracle Use and the Impact on Neurodiversity

I began my exploration into the realms of the Metu Neter, I Ching, and Qimen around 1994, driven by a desire to understand the unseen forces shaping my life. What started as a quest for spiritual insight quickly became a lifelong practice—an integral part of my mental, emotional, and intellectual landscape. Over the last three decades, these systems have acted as lenses, allowing me to see the world differently, often beyond conventional structures.

Unlike typical meditation or traditional therapy, these oracles present a constant, dynamic feedback loop, reflecting the constant shifts in my thoughts and environment. This constant process of interaction between my inner world and the messages I receive has cultivated a type of neurodiversity—one that is not about dysfunction, but a heightened sensitivity to the subtle energies of life. The result? A mind that seeks and embraces complexity, thrives on patterns, and finds meaning in chaos.

The use of these oracles in my life is not merely a passive form of reflection. Rather, they are a direct response to a world that, at times, demands more than what conventional approaches can offer. People in oppressed communities like mine, especially those living under constant societal and economic stress, often live in what I refer to as "perpetually emergent" conditions. These pressures—whether environmental, emotional, or mental—push us toward tools that can navigate chaos and provide a semblance of order, direction, and meaning.

Historically, marginalized communities have long relied on divinatory practices as a means of coping with uncertainty. The use of divination—whether through the I Ching, astrology, or indigenous spiritual systems—has been a method for understanding fate, overcoming adversity, and seeking guidance. These practices transcend time and geography, linking me with generations of people who have turned to divination to make sense of the world when traditional systems failed them.

One vivid example of how these practices have impacted my neurodiversity is through the decision-making process. When faced with a critical choice, I don’t just reflect on my emotions or logic; I consult the oracles, knowing that they provide a broader perspective that combines wisdom from both the known and unknown realms. This ability to seek guidance from multiple, often unseen sources, allows me to approach life’s complexities with a deeper understanding, and without the same level of anxiety or fear that might paralyze others.

Through this practice, I’ve developed a unique relationship with time, with memory, and with interpretation. The oracle readings are not simply about the present moment; they draw connections across time, enabling me to see patterns and lessons from the past that inform my present and shape my future. This ability to see beyond immediate circumstances—what some might call an unconventional or non-linear way of thinking—is often mislabeled as a form of neurodivergence. But in reality, it is a strength, enabling me to navigate a world that is constantly in flux.

The value of this perspective is not limited to my personal growth. As someone who thrives in non-traditional ways, I know that my insights, fueled by decades of working with these oracles, hold value for others. Whether through my art, writing, or consulting work, my experiences offer a distinct viewpoint on human potential, one that embraces complexity and embraces the nonlinear aspects of growth and healing.
