The Right to Be Unknown

Perhaps the deepest principle is one that many spiritual communities have forgotten:

A person has a right to remain mysterious to you.

You may not know why they are quiet.

You may not know what they are thinking.

You may not know why they rejected your teaching.

You may not know what happened to them.

You may not know what they believe.

You may not know what they feel.

You may not know whether your intuition about them is correct.

And you may never know.

That is not a failure of spiritual perception.

It is sometimes the correct outcome of respecting another human being.
