Toy Fish Swimming in Puddles

"One of my earliest lessons about creativity came from a little blue wind-up dolphin. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with my classmates during show and tell. On the way to school, I discovered puddles along the street and started imagining that this little dolphin had its own ocean. I arrived late because I was lost in that creative experience. My teacher scolded me at the door, seeing only the lateness. She didn't see the world I had been exploring. I still gave my presentation, but I remember the feeling of having something joyful inside me and then feeling ashamed of it. Looking back, that moment taught me that creativity needs courage. Sometimes the world will only see the surface of what you're doing. Part of the leader's journey is learning how to protect your sense of wonder while also learning how to communicate it."
